Web-o-rama : Travelers currently around the world (part 1)

This is the first part of a series about people traveling around the world and writing about it on the web. This will lead to the opening of a new part on the website syndicating this content. As usual our goal is not to do another travel sites directory but rather focus on the content we like.
Travel is our passion and the Team Hejorama spends a lot of time reading everything about travel on the web. But we especially enjoy following the people who are currently in a RTW (round the world) trip. So here is our selection of people you should follow too if you miss traveling and want some daydreaming material instead of working !
Let’s start with the Superstars for this first part :
Nomadic Matt
The first RTW traveler that we really like at Hejorama is Matt who runs the travel website Nomadic Matt. Just have a look at his “About” page and you will quickly get the spirit of his blog posts : funny and laid back and yet interesting and useful. We have been following Matt for a while now and we feel really close to him and his experiences. We are the same age, backpack the same way and are always looking to get out of the beaten path. He recently wrote a post that could be our manifesto : Is This Really Travel (or this one). Matt wants to inspire people and his blog posts are really serving this goal. They often go beyond the “simple” travel chronicles, and are smart observation and analysis on “why” and “how” people travel (like this post on American/Canadian travelers). You should also read this post to see why we like Matt. You know you will always find articles about Iguazu Falls or Surfer Paradise in the travel blogs, but this article makes many valuable points that I wish more backpackers think about (last year in Prague we had 5 Australian guy who brought 5 hookers back in the dorm. I mean, seriously ?).
Matt also has many pictures to illustrate his adventures. Unfortunately, we think they are mostly quite the typical “landscape and building” kind of pictures. That would be more interesting to see all the people he has met along the road or exotic events he attended. It would probably be more lively. But I can understand that he doesn’t necessarily want to show everything on his website. Our philosophy is more to make pictures of people we like than building or landscape because you can always find those on Flickr. On the other hand, his travel videos are really cool and very well edited. They features events, visits, random music in the street or people bungee jumping !

Gary Arndt
Gary has been traveling since 2007 and writes about his adventures in a very nice blog. We really like his blog because the content is interesting and mixed. The articles are well written and cover a variety of subject. Some are just typical destination covering but there’s also more original things like the Operation Street Food where Gary tells us how he only ate food from street stalls for a few days in Bangkok. We followed that with great interest ! He’s also part of the team that produces every week the podcast This Week in Travel which covers travel news with various guests every week. You’d think that would be already a lot for one person ? Well Gary is also a talented photographer, and although we don’t really like how he daily reposts his old pictures, we have to say they are of great quality ! And unlike other travel blogs, they are all his high-definition and size, so you are not frustrated with a crappy thumbnail of your favourite landscape. Gary has also done some videos but apparently there has been no new uploaded recently. Well, with the articles, the pictures and the podcasts, you will have already have a lot to enjoy !

There are of course many more travel Superstars on the web but that’s the two we follow and like the most. More to come in the second part…
